We have been very active in neutering stray cats in Tenerife for many years. Whenever possible, we visit cat colonies and try to catch and neuter the female and male cats living there.
Unfortunately, this project is currently becoming more than we can manage. It requires an enormous amount of time: staff planning, vehicle allocation, coordination with veterinarians, schedules that may include night shifts and many other tasks are making it increasingly difficult for our team to carry out this work. In addition, we often lack the volunteers needed for such an operation.
Above all, however, we lack the necessary funding. Neutering an average colony of around 10 to 15 cats costs us approximately €1,000.00. This does not yet include fuel costs, deworming treatments, flea treatments, other medical care or even food. We are incredibly grateful that so many of you support this project, which is so close to our hearts, and that some of you even make a regular monthly donation. Even so, it is currently almost impossible for us to cover the costs. On average, donations for this project cover only around 10% of the actual expenses.

Due to the extreme heat we are currently experiencing on the island, we will not be able to continue the campaign until autumn. The cats often do not emerge from their hiding places until the temperature has cooled down, which means after dark. At present, this does not happen until around 9:00 p.m., making our work even more difficult. We are therefore taking a short summer break. From November or December, this important project will enter its next phase—hopefully strengthened and with many supporters by our side.
