Dog Adoption Process
Our dogs are adopted fully vaccinated, neutered (if applicable), microchipped, and accompanied by a valid EU pet passport. Each dog is also tested for common Mediterranean diseases beforehand and treated as necessary.
If you are interested in adopting a dog, please complete the adoption form (German). In the free text field, you can provide initial information about your living and working situation. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible to address any questions. Alternatively, you can contact us directly by phone at 06251-66117.
Next, we’ll arrange to meet you in person. For every dog, we conduct a “home check” beforehand, where we visit your home to get a sense of you and your environment. This step is crucial to ensure compatibility between you and your future companion. If this visit is positively evaluated by both sides, you’ll receive confirmation of the adoption.
Most of our dogs are in our shelter in Tenerife. If you don’t live on Tenerife or aren’t vacationing there, you will meet your future dog at the airport in Germany. However, some of our dogs reside in one of our German partner shelters, where they can be visited by appointment. Information about the dog’s current location is always provided under their name.
Unfortunately, we cannot facilitate adoptions nationwide due to limited support from partner shelters and foster homes. However, if you’re interested in one of our dogs, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we might still find a way to bring you together.
The adoption donation for a dog is €330.00 (non-neutered) or €380.00 (neutered). You will receive a donation receipt for this amount, which can be submitted to your tax office. Receipts are automatically sent at the beginning of each year.
Important Information for Future Dog Owners
When your new four-legged companion arrives, help them settle in by taking 1–2 weeks off work to spend time with them. Most of our dogs are unfamiliar with life in a civilized environment. Things like car rides, televisions, children’s noises, and traffic may be entirely new and initially frightening to them. Additionally, they’ll need to learn house training and how to be alone, which requires patience and time. Please don’t expect your new friend to know or do everything perfectly within the first week.
We always recommend attending a dog training school. It’s important to choose a school that uses positive reinforcement and rewards rather than dominance or force 😊.
At our shelter in Tenerife, we’ve often cared for your dog for many months, providing them with love, attention, and sometimes nursing them back to health. These animals are very dear to us, and we want them to join households where they are fully integrated and actively participate in their owners’ lives. A puppy should never be left alone for more than 4 hours, and this must be gradually introduced. For adult dogs, we prefer they are not left alone for longer than 5–6 hours. Dogs are living beings with needs such as regular physical activity, mental stimulation, and companionship. Please carefully consider whether you can meet these needs.
If you can answer all these questions with a clear YES, we’d love to hear from you!
